Maloti-Drakensberg Park
The Maloti-Drakensberg Park is a World Heritage Site. It was created on June 11, 2001, by combining the Sehlabathebe National Park in Lesotho and the uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The highest point is Thaba Ntlenyana, which reaches 3,482 meters.
Malpelo Island
Malpelo is an oceanic island located in the eastern Pacific Ocean, approximately 500 km (310 mi) west of the Colombian mainland. A military base, protected by the Colombian Armed Forces, is located on the island. The island is made of steep and rocky terrain with three tall peaks, the highest being Cerro de la Mona, which reaches 300 m (980 ft).
Major town houses of the architect Victor Horta (Brussels)
The four important town houses in Brussels, Belgium, are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. These homes were created by Belgian architect Victor Horta (1861–1947), who helped develop the Art Nouveau style in the mid-1890s.
Mahabodhi Temple
The Mahabodhi Temple, also called the Mahābodhi Mahāvihāra, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. It is a restored Buddhist temple that marks the place where the Buddha is believed to have reached enlightenment. Bodh Gaya is 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) from Gaya and about 96 kilometers (60 miles) from Patna.
Macquarie Island
Macquarie Island is a subantarctic island in the south-western Pacific Ocean, located about halfway between New Zealand and Antarctica. It has been part of Tasmania, Australia, since 1880. In 1978, it became a Tasmanian State Reserve, and in 1997, it was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Old Town (Lviv)
Lviv’s Old Town (Ukrainian: Старе Місто Львова, written in Latin letters: Stare Misto L’vova; Polish: Stare Miasto we Lwowie) is the historic center of the city of Lviv, located in the Lviv province of Ukraine. It was recognized as a State Historic-Architectural Reserve in 1975.
Lut Desert
The Lut Desert (Persian: دشت لوت, written in the Persian language as Dasht-e Lut, which means “Plain of Emptiness”) is a desert with large areas of salt flats and sand dunes located in the Kerman and Sistan-Baluchestan provinces of Iran. It is the 33rd-largest desert in the world and was added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List on July 17, 2016. The name comes from the Persian words “Lut,” meaning “bare or empty,” and “dasht,” meaning “plain.” The sand’s surface has reached temperatures as high as 70.7 °C (159.3 °F), which is the highest recorded temperature on land.
Lumbini
Lumbinī (pronounced [ˈlumbiniː], “the lovely”) is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Lumbini Province in Nepal. According to sacred texts and Buddhist commentaries, Maya Devi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini around 563 BCE. Siddhartha Gautama reached Enlightenment and became Shakyamuni Buddha (Sanskrit: शाक्यमुनि बुद्ध, “the Enlightened Sage of the Śākyas”), who founded Buddhism.
Omo River
The Omo River (Amharic: ኦሞ ወንዝ, romanized: Omo Wenz; also called Omo-Bottego) is the largest river in southern Ethiopia that is not part of the Nile Basin. It flows entirely within Ethiopia and empties into Lake Turkana, which is located on the border between Ethiopia and Kenya. The river is the main water source for the Turkana Basin, a region that does not drain into the ocean.
Los Katíos National Park
Los Katíos National Natural Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Natural (PNN) Los Katíos) is a protected area in northwest Colombia. It covers about 720 square kilometers (280 square miles). The park’s elevation ranges from 50 to 600 meters (160 to 1,970 feet).
