Kluane / Wrangell–St. Elias / Glacier Bay / Tatshenshini-Alsek
Kluane / Wrangell–St. Elias / Glacier Bay / Tatshenshini-Alsek is an international park system located in Canada and the United States, at the border of Yukon, Alaska, and British Columbia. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994 because of its beautiful glacier and icefield landscapes and the importance of its habitat for grizzly bears, caribou, and Dall sheep.
Kizhi Pogost
Kizhi Pogost (Russian: Кижский погост) is a historical site built in the 17th century on Kizhi Island. The island is located on Lake Onega in the Republic of Karelia (Medvezhyegorsky District), Russia. A pogost is the area inside a fence that includes two large wooden churches (the 22-dome Transfiguration Church and the 9-dome Intercession Church) and a bell tower.
Kinabalu Park
Kinabalu Park (Malay: Taman Kinabalu) was created in 1964 as one of Malaysia’s first national parks. It became Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 2000 because of its “outstanding universal values” and its importance as a major biological site. The park is home to more than 4,500 species of plants and animals, including 326 bird species, about 100 mammal species, and over 110 land snail species.
Kilimanjaro National Park
Kilimanjaro National Park (Hifadhi ya Taifa ya Kilimanjaro, in Swahili) is a national park in Tanzania located about 300 kilometers (190 miles) south of the equator in the Kilimanjaro Region, near Moshi. The park includes the entire area of Mount Kilimanjaro above the tree line and the surrounding forest area above 1,820 meters (5,970 feet). It covers an area of 1,688 square kilometers (652 square miles) and is located between 2°50’–3°10’S and 37°10’–37°40’E.
Khami
Khami, also known as Khame, Kame, or Kami, is a ruined city located 22 kilometers west of Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. It was once the capital of the Butua Kingdom, which was part of the Torwa dynasty. Today, Khami is a national monument and was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1986.
Khajuraho Group of Monuments
The Khajuraho Group of Monuments is a collection of Hindu and Digambara Jain temples located in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, India. These monuments are approximately 46 kilometers (28.6 miles) from Chhatarpur city, the district’s main office, 283 kilometers (177 miles) from Gwalior, 175 kilometers (109 miles) southeast of Jhansi, 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) from Khajwa, and 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) from Rajnagar. The temples are known for their Nagara-style architecture and for having some sculptures that show scenes of love and relationships.
Kernavė
Kernavė was the medieval capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Today, it is a tourist attraction and an archaeological site with a population of 238 people (as of 2021). It is located in the Širvintos district municipality, which is in the southeast part of Lithuania.
Great Rift Valley, Kenya
The Great Rift Valley is a system of low areas inside a continent that stretches from north to south through Kenya. It is part of the Gregory Rift, the eastern part of the East African Rift, which begins in Tanzania to the south and extends north into Ethiopia. It was formed on the “Kenyan Dome,” a bulge in the Earth’s surface caused by the movement of three major tectonic plates: the Arabian, Nubian, and Somali plates.
Kaziranga National Park
Kaziranga National Park is located in the Golaghat, Sonitpur, Biswanath, and Nagaon districts of Assam, India. The park is home to two-thirds of the world’s Indian rhinoceroses and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A census in March 2018, conducted by the Forest Department of Assam and wildlife organizations, found that there are 2,613 rhinos in the park.
Kathmandu Valley
The Kathmandu Valley, also called the Nepal Valley or Nepa Valley, is a bowl-shaped area in the Himalayan mountains of Nepal. It is located where many ancient cultures from the Indian subcontinent and Asia met. The valley has at least 130 important monuments, including places of worship for Hindus and Buddhists.
