Chogha Zanbil
Chogha Zanbil is an ancient Elamite site located in the Khuzestan province of Iran. It is one of the few remaining ziggurats found outside of Mesopotamia. The site is about 30 kilometers (19 miles) southeast of Susa and 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of Ahvaz.
Sundarbans
The Sundarbans is a mangrove forest located in the Ganges Delta, where the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna Rivers meet in the Bay of Bengal. It covers an area from the Hooghly River in India’s West Bengal state to the Baleswar River in Bangladesh’s Khulna Division. The region includes closed and open mangrove forests, farmland, mudflats, and barren land, and is crossed by many tidal streams and channels.
Sukur
Sukur, also known as the Sukur Cultural Landscape, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on a hill above the village of Sukur in Adamawa State, Nigeria. It is found in the Mandara Mountains, near the border with Cameroon. The site was added to the UNESCO list because of its cultural heritage, material culture, and naturally terraced fields.
Srebarna Nature Reserve
The Srebarna Nature Reserve (Bulgarian: Природен резерват Сребърна, written in the Bulgarian language as Priroden rezervat Srebarna) is a protected area in northeastern Bulgaria (Southern Dobruja), near a village with the same name. It is located 18 kilometers (11 miles) west of Silistra and 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) south of the Danube River. The reserve includes Lake Srebarna and the land around it.
Socotra
Socotra, also known as Saqatri, is an island in Yemen located in the Indian Ocean. It is positioned between the Gulf of Aden, the Guardafui Channel, and the Arabian Sea, and is near important shipping routes. Socotra is the largest island in the Socotra archipelago, making up about 95% of the total land area of the group.
Serengeti National Park
The Serengeti National Park is a large national park in northern Tanzania. It covers an area of 14,763 km² (5,700 sq mi) and is located in the eastern Mara Region and northeastern Simiyu Region. The park includes over 15,000 km² (5,800 sq mi) of untouched grasslands.
San Agustín Archaeological Park
The San Agustín Archaeological Park (Spanish: Parque Arqueológico de San Agustín) is a large area with many ancient ruins near the town of San Agustín in the Huila Department of Colombia. It has the largest collection of religious monuments and large stone statues in Latin America and is considered the world’s largest burial site. The park is part of the San Agustin culture and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995.
Salonga National Park
Salonga National Park (French: Parc National de la Salonga) is a national park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located in the Congo River basin and covers about 36,000 square kilometers, or 3,600,000 hectares (8,900,000 acres). This makes it Africa’s largest tropical rainforest reserve.
Kilwa Kisiwani
Kilwa Kisiwani, also known as Kilwa Island, is an island, historic site, and small community located in the township of Kilwa Masoko. It is the main town of Kilwa District in Lindi Region, southern Tanzania. Kilwa Kisiwani is the largest of nine hamlets in Kilwa Masoko and has the fewest people among them, with about 1,150 residents.
Royal Palaces of Abomey
The Royal Palaces of Abomey are 10 palaces located in the center of Abomey, Benin, which was once the capital of the West African Kingdom of Dahomey. The kingdom was established in 1625 by the Fon people, who built it into a strong military and trade empire. This kingdom controlled trade with European slave traders on the Slave Coast until the late 1800s, selling prisoners of war to these traders.
