The Classical Gardens of Suzhou (traditional Chinese: 蘇州園林; simplified Chinese: 苏州园林; pinyin: Sūzhōu yuánlín; Suzhounese: sou-tseu yoe-lin) are a collection of gardens located in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China. These gardens are listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Covering a time period of nearly one thousand years, from the Northern Song Dynasty to the late Qing Dynasty (11th–19th century), these gardens were mostly built by scholars. They helped create many important design elements in classical Chinese garden art. These gardens use built landscapes that copy natural scenery, such as rocks, hills, and rivers, with pavilions and pagodas placed carefully.

The beautiful and refined designs of these scholars' gardens, along with their delicate features, have influenced many other gardens in China, including the Imperial Gardens found in places like the Chengde Mountain Resort. According to UNESCO, the gardens of Suzhou "show the development of Chinese landscape garden design over more than two thousand years" and are considered "the most detailed and beautiful example" of garden art.

These landscape gardens became popular during the mid-Ming to early-Qing dynasties, leading to the creation of up to 200 private gardens. Today, 69 gardens in Suzhou remain preserved, and all are protected as "National Heritage Sites." In 1997 and 2000, eight of the best gardens in Suzhou, along with one in the nearby ancient town of Tongli, were chosen by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site to represent the art of Suzhou-style classical gardens.

Well-known designers of Suzhou gardens include Zhang Liang, Ji Cheng, Ge Yuliang, and Chen Congzhou.

Comprehensive monitoring plan

The site is watched carefully according to a detailed monitoring plan. Regular care and planned projects to protect the gardens are carried out. The Suzhou Municipal Administrative Bureau of Gardens is in charge of these tasks.
