Master Review: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

            I knew nothing about this film. I went in blind, which was a good thing. This was a very emotional movie that hit several points in the emotional spectrum. Throughout the film there were several character that we watched evolve through the story. Some were enjoyable to watch the change in character others were not.

            The story takes place Ebbing, Missouri a somewhat small town where everyone seems to know each other. Not all is well in the town, Mildred Hayes a mother whose her daughter was raped then set on fire. Mildred turns to the police but after months no culprit is found. That’s where this film begins with Mildred renting three bill board accusing the police of doing nothing.

            Throughout this film Mildred receives a ton of hate from others in the community. This doesn’t faze Mildred one bit. She is a strong character who answers to no one and the town is turned against her.

            This is where the characters begin to evolve, while Mildred is dead set against the police the other characters slowly start to come around to helping her. This is slow and only a few people begin to help her. It is however more then she had in the begging.

            This story shows what a town would do to try to silence what they don’t want to hear. The town seems to have forgot the horrific way Mildred’s daughter died or doesn’t want to think of it. They would rather do nothing then to catch the person responsible.

            This film is a tense one. It does have time when you’ll find yourself chuckling and there are some vindictive moments that feel well deserved. This is a film I would recommend you watch. It’s very deep and emotional and you feel it. You feel the anger and rage, the frustration and the courage it took for Mildred Hayes to go against everyone in her town so she could get the person responsible for her daughter’s death. It’s not a happy film but it is a good one.
