The Great Spa Towns of Europe is a World Heritage Site that includes 11 spa towns located in seven European countries. These towns were built near natural mineral water springs. Between the early 1700s and the 1930s, people in Western Europe used spas and baths more often, which led to the creation of beautiful and complex bathhouses. These bathhouses were often surrounded by gardens, casinos, theatres, and villas.

Nomination

The city of Bath was first added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1987. Work to include the Great Spas of Europe on the World Heritage List started in 2012, and the nomination was sent in 2019. On July 24, 2021, the Great Spas of Europe was officially added to the World Heritage List.
